Langley Rotary's first ever Hoop-A-Thon was a huge success! The gym at Aldergrove Community Secondary School was rockin' June 2 as 62 participants in 15 teams, plus two individual contestants, tried to sink as many 3-point baskets as they could inside one minute, encouraged by a very vocal supporting crowd.

Also taking part were four Vancouver Bandits, including the team president and one of its scoring stars, Diego Maffia, who sank the most hoops (36, including a one-two ricochet). (The Bandits play out of the Langley Events Centre.)

Thanks to the amazing generosity of our community, the proceeds of more than $25,000 will be shared equally among the Langley Foundry, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Langley, the soccer field replacement project at James Kennedy Elementary School, and a program to buy sports equipment for a couple of Langley elementary schools.

The four Langley-area Rotary clubs would like to thank everyone for their support and the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event happen. A special shout-out goes to incoming Aldergrove club president Emma Stewart, who chaired this LRCCF project.

Here's looking forward to an even bigger, better Hoop-A-Thon 2025!!
